Introducing Dig Where You Stand – from Coast to Coast (DWYS) project activation exhibition in Lagos 💫 💫
DWYS is a project which focuses on decolonization, restitution, and regeneration through art, emphasizing local collaboration, reversing extractive practices, and fostering sustainable economic and cultural exchanges across African coastal cities.
Following the successful launch of the 4th iteration of the project in Benin, African Artists’ Foundation in collaboration with Alliance Francaise @af.lagos is pleased to present an activation exhibition for the project in Lagos!
The project is presented as a series of traveling exhibitions that empowers local communities by connecting them to their cultural heritage and challenging colonial legacies. The project has since travelled through; Ghana (2022), Togo (2023), Portugal (2024), and more recently, Benin.
The activation exhibition is aimed at introducing the project and engaging the community on its core topics such as the concept of regeneration through art, engagement of local communities in collaborative practices, the kick-start of location-specific regenerative economic processes while raising awareness on decolonization and restitution, as well as showcasing previously shown and new works from DWYS.
Exhibiting artists include Tola Wewe, Raquel Van Haver, Caleb Prah and Adeju Thompson, with previously shown work from the DWYS exhibitions, and a few new artists to be unveiled at the exhibition.
The event will be presented at Alliance Française, Lagos, from October 26 to November 23, 2024, time TBA
We invite you to join us as we introduce Dig Where You Stand – from Coast to Coast as a new model of engagement with questions of decolonization, restitution, and repatriation.
